Arthur Taylor and Alistair Gellatly, two experienced safari guides, planned the trip. No matter the problem.

Fay Taylor, Arthur English wife, his parents, Clive and Brenda Kelly went with them. Brenda reluctant to go, but finally agreed because it was the last day of the visit to Zambia.

This was almost the last day of their lives.

The Zambezi is an awesome river. This amazing bird life and a wide variety of animal life, including giant crocodiles and hippos.

The atmosphere was very relaxed as he floated down the river. Fay said: ".. Passed many schools hippos lazing around and all these things I looked so peaceful and calm"

Brenda caught a fish. The group planned to go to a shady place to celebrate when the ship was hit by a hippo. All five went into the water and the boat overturned.

Fay's comment: "A subliminal said:" This is the end. "

had to face the fact that they were in the water is one of the crocodile infested rivers in the world

Fay was terrified." To think about the bare dangly legs – sent through a cold, I think, that at any moment one could be a crocodile. "

Clive and Alistair clung to the boat as the others swept away by the river.

Arthur failed to capture Fay and Brenda as they struggled to keep their heads above water. Fortunately, the current took them towards the center of the river, where there was a sunken island.

reached a place where they could stand in water up to their knees. However, it was still a good chance of being eaten.

Alistair decided to swim for help and They swept three or four hundred meters downriver He swam an input for your feet hit the ground got up and saw a crocodile looked at the water onto about twenty meters then plunged ominously

Alistair thoughts described….

"I do not really know what to do. I decided to go to the crocodile and perhaps prosecuted. I went under the water to where it was a crocodile. As I began to go to the crocodile that picked me up.

"It was going to my feet. I pushed it with my left hand. He disappeared for a while and then latched straight to his right arm. He wanted to really tear off my arm. I was getting very weak.

"I thought it was over, but I have one last idea, and reached into his mouth to my left arm to hit the roof keeps water out of the throat. The second reached with my left hand to let go. "

The savage attack broke Alistair's arm in three places and his shoulder ripped from the socket joint" very weak, I had lost a lot of blood. "

made a tourniquet to save what's left of

Fay could hear shouting." Oh my God! Oh, my God, "and thought it was just exhausted and relieved that he got to the other side then shouted that he had been bitten by a crocodile

Arthur said.." We were not sure that he could survive an hour let alone a day. "

Arthur decided that it should go to for help. he started on the Zimbabwean side of the river. Fay told him that he can not help Alistair if you gained it.

realized that there are too many crocodiles in the bank, and decided to return.

Meanwhile, Alistair moved away from the river to avoid another attack crocodile. he sat down under a tree. the slightest movement was agony.

Clive still stranded in the middle of the river on the boat, which is just beginning to sink Fay saw the danger.

"My father had no choice but to swim. When the ship went down last night would not have been a chance. "

was a poor swimmer and had to fight the current. Fay was terrified that the crocodile would take before he got there. To the huge relief, would not it a sandbank safely.

Alistair, on the coast, threatening gangrene. his wound was full of bacteria from the crocodile's teeth. a friend lost a leg, having eaten a lion though he reached hospital within eight hours. If the gangrene does not get . Alistair predators

Back to the river, in the hope that they found before sunset was a distant Arthur thought about swimming to the Zambian side that was what Alistair, but Fay stopped him.

"I knew that can not bear to go, and that will not survive without it. "

finally, the group decided to head all of the Zambian side. However, Fay was unable to follow through with a plan. Now that we face the possibility of an awesome night under the water on the island there is no hope of rescue.

They stood shouting "Alistair!" until the sun went down and the hyena starts. Then, when he called back, he would have attracted predators nearby.

Night is the most dangerous time in the African bush and leopards, lions and hyenas can smell blood miles away.

Arthur gathered some stones throw any predators. I was once out at night Zakuru, Kenya, and noticed that a pack of dogs not far from me. As Alistair, I picked up some stones to throw them if they came after me.

I was able to walk quickly with contrast, and get back to the inn. I spent the night on the porch of a guard armed with a huge knife from me on the other side of the porch. I could lie down and sleep, anyway.

conditions Fay described the river ". When it got dark the wind picked up and it's really cool I absolutely freezing were my teeth chattering, just do not know it's hot."

Arthur agreed: ". It was extremely cold you are in distress, because there is a good chance the crocodile will come to you at night."

they got a ring and huddled together. They tried to pay attention to all sides.

Fay their thoughts: "We are straining to the water, and every time I think about crocodiles – huge snapping jaws and mouth open – it's just a scary thought."

clods was floating vegetation Crocs . Hit a lot of shovels until they realized that this is only the leaves and branches.

Back on the beach, Alistair worried that he left a blood trail that attracts the lions and hyenas. He heard grazing and looked up and saw a buffalo.

"It looked right at me Bison can be really dangerous, and killed a lot of people for some reason it came and lay down for about thirty feet simply can not.. I can not believe it happened it was like a sentry lying there – a large sentinel "

river, Fay thought about the reality of the situation:

".. the darkness around us happens you realize . how vulnerable you were in that great vastness've been nothing things are just out of your control, "

Arthur realized how vulnerable they were

".. We knew we did not make it until morning Fay worried. that you might never see the children again. "

I heard a crocodile's tail slapped the water as it came closer. They clearly saw the jagged edge of the tail. Great Panic!

Arthur the paddle into the water and the crocodile left the main stream. They were on tenterhooks after that when another came.

Alistair, on the beach, he knew he was awake, but failed. They may slip into unconsciousness and dead by morning. Only he could not awake.

back into the water on the island, everyone suffers. Arthur described their condition: ".. Standing for such a long period of time, I get really tired of his back was aching and we were in the cold"

Arthur wanted to sit down with the water was warmer than the air above.

Fay said… "You can not sit down, because you will get wet and cold and get hypothermia has just got that through this we have two children to think about and they need us

"When I was living, it was a relief, because it made it through the night, but worried that Alistair bled to death. Physically and mentally we're just exhausted. "

After nearly twenty hours stranded in the waters of the team were desperate They think it was one day, and someone would have to come anymore..

saw what looked like a white . boat, but they're only a white bird flying toward them dashed hopes

Fay commented: ".. We just felt helpless – helpless"

Meanwhile, Alistair woke from its slumber safari ants gnawing furiously wounds

"It was like a needle pain all over the place, especially on my arm. I realized there were ants biting me. "

bites triggered a wave of adrenaline that snapped him out of unconsciousness and probably saved his life. Alistair forced herself to hobble up. It was not from twenty-four hours a crocodile attack.

thought he heard the boat and staggered down the river, but did not see anyone. fell asleep on the bank despite the threat of crocodiles. the "island", the others are beginning to lose hope.

When Alistair woke up to see a couple and a boat parking on the other side of the river. It was unable to shout and moved away.

by the river of your friends could do nothing but await their fate, but suddenly Brenda spotted two canoes. incredibly some canoeists ventured this far on the river. Fay and the others was delighted

"saw us and thought:".. how strange men fishing in the middle of the river, "I can not tell you how he felt. It's just kind of a relief. It was going to be all right. I always worry about Alistair. "

Later, the couple on the boat came back and saw Alistair in the bank. They took safety where over with the others. He was alive, and even his arm was saved in the hospital.

All five life remained Arthur and Alistair even go fishing on the same stretch of river Clive and Brenda even to Africa regularly but will not go fishing any morel Fay spends most weekends bush, but they rarely go out on the river..

"always I feel nervous when I get on a boat, even after all these years. It's just such a terrible experience, but all left – all five of us. is everything "

more success and survival lessons emerge from the story.

Keep lonely and dangerous areas of the river or the city.

keep aware of what's happening around you.

Take a walk or a swim in the safest available.

do not give up, if a crocodile or equivalent "monster" grabs! fight while we still can. "do not go gentle into that good night!"

is safety in numbers! Watch each other's backs!

be alert and aware all night if necessary.

appreciate being able to get a good night's sleep whenever you want .

Sometimes waiting for help can be wiser than a risky attempt to help yourself.

Perhaps the most important lesson is to appreciate how easy and pleasant our lives. we can lie down in a comfortable, warm bed when we do not have to worry about the crocodile will eat us!

success and greater rewards often follow the recognition and gratitude for what you already have.

I'll try to remember the story of a crocodile island every day and night, so that I can enjoy a day on the fact that I'm not stuck in the middle of a river killer crocs around me!
